C. M. Nelson – TRC Companies, Instructor
C. C. M. Nelson is Sr. Technical Advisor for TRC Companies. He has
a BS-MET from Texas A&M University. Since 1981, Mr. Nelson
has been involved with corrosion control and related fields. He has
almost 35 years of experience as a manufacturer in the engineering,
design, and manufacturing of rectifiers, junction boxes, and
specialty equipment including technical support and training. He
has been conducting rectifier training schools for clients, AMPP
chapters, and industry personnel for approximately 30 years.
He has been with TRC in their Pipeline Integrity group since 2020, conducting training courses and providing consulting to clients.

Class attendees will receive 12 Professional Development Hours towards re-certification.

DAY 1:
7:30 A.M. REGISTRATION

I. INTRODUCTION
A. Safety Concerns
a. Types of potential injuries (i.e.: electrical shock, burns, etc...)
b. “Non-Electrical” hazards (insects/animals/environment)
B. Rectifier Fundamentals
C. Troubleshooting Fundamentals
II. RECTIFIER TROUBLESHOOTING:
A. Troubleshooting Equipment.
B. Rectifier Component Breakdown.
C. Cause/effect of Component Failure.
D. Potential Hazards of Components
1. Individual breakdown and discussion of each major component in rectifier
(i.e.: breaker, transformer, stack, lightning arrestors, fuses, etc...)
2. Types of potential hazards/injuries presented by each of major components
(i.e.: AC voltage, DC voltage, electrical shock, burns, fire, etc...)
E. Methods to Reduce or Eliminate Potential Injuries.
F. Testing Techniques for Component Troubleshooting.
DAY 2:
8:00 A.M. – 12:00: CLASS
III. REVIEW:
Review and Open Forum; Q/A over “Day 1” materials
IV. FIELD APPLICATION:
A. Actual Class Participation in Application of Troubleshooting Techniques on
Simulated Cathodic Rectifier Installations
B. “Hands-On” Testing of Silicon Diodes and Modules Testing Techniques for
Component Troubleshooting
V. WRAP-UP & CLOSE:
A. Class Discussion of Field Application Period
B. Question and Answers
C. Review of Class Material
1. Troubleshooting.
2. Electrical safety.
LUNCH: Lunch will be provided on the first day as well as snacks in the morning and afternoon with coffee/drinks during breaks.
